Not all versions of Microsoft’s new operating system, “Vista”, are configured the same way. Some versions are configured with their file systems set up with unusually high security. This can cause problems running many software applications, including ProActivity Reports. |
In order to run properly, ProActivity Reports needs to be able to read and write its files to several folders (“directories”) on your computer. Your version of Vista may be set up to keep you from reading and writing to these folders. |
Most versions of Vista are set up properly, but if you ever get an error message that says something like “a file or folder could not be created or written to”, improperly set up Vista security permissions are the likely culprits. |

If you’d like to do it yourself, the folders you may need to change are:
- C:\Windows\TEMP (or C:\WinNT\TEMP on older systems)
- C:\ProgramData
- C:\ProgramData\Aps
- C:\ProgramData\Aps\Backups
- C:\ProgramData\Aps\Logs
- C:\Program Files\Mature Solutions\ProActivity Reports
- C:\Program Files\Mature Solutions\ProActivity Reports\MySQL Server 5.0

Note: In most cases, you’ll only need to fix the first folder listed, “C:\Windows\TEMP” |
To apply permissions to a file or folder |
1. Right-click the file or folder, and then click “Properties”.
2. Click the “Security” tab, and then click “Edit”.
3. Do one of the following:
- To change or remove permissions from an existing group or user, click the name of the group or user, select “Full Control”, and then click OK. (This is the most likely case.)
- To set permissions for a user that is not listed under Group or user names, click Add, type the name of the user or group, click OK, select “Full Control”, and then click OK.

Usually, the simplest way to make this work is to give all relevant users and groups “Full Control” of the folders listed above. |
